Going back to the autumn of 2010 and here's Lisa's touching rendition of "My Funny Valentine" accompanied by Clifford Slapper on piano. A little insight about this secret concert: When three of Soho's leading ladies, Eddi McPherson, Georgina Sutcliffe and Lesley Lewis heard that the "Ubuntu Charity in Africa" was achieving amazing results with the education of under-privileged children, they wanted to help. They decided to support the charity, twin it with their local Soho Parish School and organise a secret concert at the French House on Dean Street to raise funds for both. With Soho being a village within a city, word soon spread and personalities such as Suggs, Steven Tompkinson, David McAlmont together with Lisa Stansfield and others who live and work in the area immediately came forward to volunteer their talent and support. Soho's favourite pianist, Clifford Slapper, volunteered as musical director - and other locals, including singer Paul Ryan and some of the top names in filming, sound recording and lighting, provided their talents freely. This DVD was a direct result of the good will of the Soho community. Limited sales of 500 copies were made available. Today we pay our respects to the Godfather of 'house music' Frankie Knuckles, R.I.P 1955-20141/4/2014 Word spread late Monday about the death of the pioneering DJ who described himself as a "man of music, citizen of the universe, friend to everyone, enemy to none." Apart from the mixes he made for Lisa , here's just a small selection of his work (below) which still remain as some of the hottest dance tunes of our time: Lisa joined the Daybreak team this morning and performed "Can't Dance". She later joined Aled Jones and Kate Garraway for a chat about her new album Seven and the film Northern Soul Lisa appeared on BBC One's "The One Show" earlier talking about her part playing "Mum" in Elaine Constantine forthcoming movie "Northern Soul " Lisa's performance on The Late Late Show (video below)
#TBT and rewind all the way back to 1992 with Lisa's amazing performance at "The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert". This concert was a tribute to the life of the late Queen front-man, Freddie Mercury. All proceeds and profits went to AIDS research for AIDS Awareness and was used to launch The Mercury Phoenix Trust AIDS charity organisation. The open-air concert was held on 20th April 1992 at London's Wembley Stadium in front of an audience of 72,000. The concert broadcast live around the world on TV and radio in 76 countries with an audience of up to one billion. It still remains as one of Lisa's personal highlights of her career. Lisa's performance of "I Want To Break Free" (below) was not shown as frequently as Lisa and George Michaels duet on "These Are the Days Of Our Lives" (which went straight to No.1 in the UK charts) for that very reason we are treating you with this little flashback clip |
