Georgia is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a handful of internationally acclaimed musicians who will perform at the Black Sea Jazz Festival this summer.
RnB legend, multi-platinum artist and entertainer Snoop Dogg, soul-pop diva Lisa Stansfield, RnB/soul singer Liv Warfield and funk music icon George Clinton will make their musical debut at this year’s Black Sea Jazz Festival in Batumi. Festival guests will have the opportunity to meet these and other artists at the event, which will be held over four days from July 23 to 26. Organisers said the four-day festival was bound to entertain people of all musical tastes, as the line-up offered performances from leading artists across a range of genres, including jazz, funk, disco, soul, R&B and more. The major acts to perform in this year’s the festival are soul-pop diva Lisa Stansfield, R&B star Snoop Dogg, R&B singer and songwriter Liv Warfield and one of the foremost innovators of funk music George Clinton. The opening concert of the festival will be held on July 23 and hosted by Clinton with the bands Parliament and Funkadelic. The following night, Warfield will take to the stage to continue the joyful mood with her soulful tunes. On July 25th, the stage will be taken over by festival headline act Lisa Stansfield, who is known for her seductive, soulful vocals and timeless dance-pop songs. These hits saw her top the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, duet with George Michael and Queen, win multiple Brits and Ivor Novello awards and feature on the soundtrack of The Bodyguard, the biggest-selling film soundtrack of all time. The four day event will end with a concert by multi-platinum artist, actor and entertainment icon, rapper Snoop Dogg. The festival is being organised by Eastern Promotions, a Georgian company which has hosted jazz festivals and musical events throughout the country since 1998. Since its establishment, Eastern Promotions has helped bring various notable and highly acclaimed musicians to Georgia, including Ray Charles, James Brown, George Benson, Al Jarreau, Bobby McFerrin, Maceo Parker, The Manhattan Transfer, Take 6, Roy Ayers, Coolio, John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Garry Barton, Jamiroquai, Shakira, Joe Cocker and many more. The first showing will be Friday 27th at 11:15am (GMT) followed by two repeats per day until 31st March. Look out for cameos from Steve Coogan as Langridge's patronising teacher, Ricky Tomlinson as his ailing granddad and of course Lisa Stansfield as the mum. Following that, BBC4 TV are repeating the brilliant documentary they showed last year about the Northern Soul scene called 'Living For The Weekend' which is scheduled at 9pm (GMT) on Friday 27th March.
