interview for Australian TV channel 9.

Lisa was dashing around from her tour rehearsals and her busy schedule continued into the late evening and straight into another interview for Australian TV channel 9.
Lisa spoke candidly to Morning's David Campbell and Sonia Kruger on Wednesday.
'There was a period in music that didn't suit what I did. I didn't fit in,' said the throaty voiced,
raven-haired beauty on Australia's popular morning show.

'When I make an album I love to spend a long time making it and put my heart and soul into it. I was waiting for things to come around, I had my toe in the door and hopefully I've got my whole leg in now.'
The ballsy singer who got her big break aged 14 on talent show Search for a Star said the lyrics to her famous song were a love story between herself and her husband and producer Ian Devaney and they never expected it to be search a hit.

'You know that something is good but you never really know how good. You always underestimate how much of an impact something is going to have,' said the Manchester-born popstar.
The couple were back in the studio for her latest record and in her typical blunt northern fashion, Lisa revealed the pair's unique creative process.
'I don't mind Ian telling me something that I've done is rubbish. I'll be on the vocals and he'll be like "Nah, it was rubbish that Lisa", we've known each other for so long"

'We've bonded in different aspects really.'  Lisa who recently played a gig at London's G-A-Y is set to continue her European tour, she kicked off  a months tour tomorrow 8th May in Zurich.

Johnny's Blog - Full Band Rehearsals: Day 1

Johnny's Tour Blog
(Keep upto date with Johnny Thirkell's Tour blog and all the shenanigans along the way...)

And so.
Here I am on the 22:12 to Aylesbury Vale Parkway calling at various Chiltern beauty spots en route to Great Missenden – my local station – not a little worse for wear but with a (low carbohydrate) Cornish Pasty for company.

It’s been a good day. A day full of laughter, trepidation, concentration, frustration, argument, tomfoolery and general lack of focus but, most of all, a sense of great excitement that we are all back together and about to embark on a 5 week adventure taking in most major European countries in the name of entertainment.

Over the past few days there have been rehearsals involving individual sections of the band – the rhythm section started last Thursday and I think Andrea was in yesterday – but today was the first day we were all together trying to a) remember what we did on the old tunes and b) work out what we are going to do on the new tunes.

Under the tutelage and stewardship of our esteemed Musical Director, 80s Dave, we have rehashed, amended and improved much of the set so that, if you make it to any of the shows, you will hear not only tunes from the new album but also revamped versions of some of the older songs.

Of course, there are some songs which it would be sacrilege to alter – and some which it wouldn't, but we can’t be arsed to, so I think generally we will have a set which should keep everyone happy – old fans and new.

It’s at this point in the rehearsal procedure that all of the creative ideas that 80s Dave and the rhythm section have had over the past few days get trashed by Ian, Mickey and I on account of being way too hard to play and we revert to how it used to be ‘back in the day’.

To be honest, they have come up with some cracking variations on the old songs and I think the great discerning public will enjoy them a lot. However, if you see Mick and I scrabbling round on the floor as if we are hunting down an errant contact lens, it’s because we’ve come to a hard bit which we can’t possible play whilst maintaining the usual high standard of fancy footwork.

The actual contents of the final set list are absolutely top secret and, were I to accidentally reveal them, I would be forced to kill both of you (assuming you have both made it this far).

Suffice to say there is a good mix of old and new, obvious and left-field, fast & slow, quiet and loud.

The general mood was one of positivity in the face of a dreadful racket but I’m sure that, by the time we climb on the bus to head to Zurich on Wednesday, we will all be feeling much more confident in what we are doing.

There’s quite a bit more singing for me to do this time around but that’s OK with me – I enjoy it, partly because it hurts much less than blowing down a tube.

After the band rehearsal Mick, Lisa, Ian and I retired to the Caledonian Arms to talk through the more tricky dance moves and to arrange for the leg warmers to be collected from our team of expert, ninja dry cleaners.

The new trumpet held up quite well – although, after 35 years playing the old one, it was a little disconcerting to say the least but….. more on that tomorrow.

In the meantime, I must sign off otherwise there won’t be enough time for me to nod off and miss my station.

A bientôt……

Nearly time to head to @sthendfilmfest Opening Gala. Looking forward to catching some ‘lost’ Peter Sellers comedy shorts! #redcarpet

— Lisa Stansfield (@lisajstansfield) May 1, 2014
The Southend Standard reports:

THE world premiere of long-lost Peter Sellers films brought out the stars at the gala opening of the Southend film festival.

Stars of stage and screen, and even music, turned up at the Odeon, Southend, on Thursday for the screening of the Sellers’ classics.

Mackenzie Crook, who made his name in hit comedy, the Office, and who has since scored Hollywood success in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, introduced the films as he is a lifelong Sellers fan.

He was joined by celebrities including singer Lisa Stansfield, comedienne Helen Lederer, as well as actors Joely Collins and Vicki Michelle.

The Sellers films, Dearth of a Salesman and Insomnia is Good For You, were lost for 60 years before they were found in a skip in London when the defunct Park Lane Films’ former office building was being cleared out.

Stars were full of praise for Sellers. Vicki Michelle said: “Peter Sellers is part of what’s great about British culture.”

Lisa Stansfield said: “It’s great to be here and a privilege to see these films. Sellers was a genius, wasn't he?”Mackenzie Crook, who lives in Peter Sellers’ former house in London, said: “If character actors have a god, it is Peter Sellers, who developed the skill of being a character actor into so much more.

“He might have cringed at the idea that these films would be screened at a film festival, but the passage of time has turned them into treasures.”

Film festival director, Paul Cotgrove, said: “Due to Peter Sellers’ iconic status with film fans around the world and the fact that he is sadly no longer with us, any ‘new’ material is bound to produce an enormous amount of interest.”

Mr Cotgrove was joined by the grandson of Peter Sellers, Will Sellers, on the red carpet. Mr Sellers said: “Most people don’t get the opportunity to see a grandparent they’ve never met on screen like this and it’s nice to see people are still interested in what granddad did.”

Also walking along the red carpet was Westcliff actor Darren Kent, who is in the new series of hit show Game of Thrones.

#TBT - This day in 1993 Lisa was No.1 in the charts with George Michael

On Easter Monday 20th April 1992 The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert (for AIDS Awareness) was held at London's Wembley Stadium, in front of an audience of 72,000 which was broadcast live on television and radio to 76 countries around the world, with an audience of up to one billion.
The concert was a tribute to the life of the late Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury, with all proceeds going to AIDS research. The profits from the concert were used to launch The Mercury Phoenix Trust AIDS charity organisation.

On that day back in 1992, Lisa sang a duet with George Michael on "These Are the Days of Our Lives" (written by Queen drummer Roger Taylor).  One year later, in April 1993 an EP of Lisa Stansfield and George Michaels performances with Queen were released as "Five Live".
On this very day, 1st May 1993 it went straight in at No.1 where it remained for 3 weeks.
