Lisa will perform for the first time at the Leopolis Jazz Fest (formerly known as 'Alfa Jazz Fest' until 2017).
The international open-air jazz festival, which is annually held in June in Lviv (Ukraine). The first festival was successfully held in 2011. Concerts featuring over a hundred world class musicians, performing on three stages in the city’s downtown area, over 100,000 spectators and around 200 accredited press reporters – this is story of the Leopolis Jazz Fest. The Guardian included festival in the list of the best European festivals.

In addition to concerts of jazz musicians from around the world, jam sessions, master-classes and autograph sessions of world jazz stars take place during the festival as well.

For over 30 years, Lisa Stansfield has combined soul and pop music in her work. Her first success came in the 80s. At that time, she would perform in the group Blue Zone. The composition Big Thing ranked 11th in the UK and entered the top 10 dance charts in America. Since then, Lisa Stansfield has sold over 20 million records.
Her first breakthrough was the 1989 album Affection and the singles: All Around The World (which reached the third place in the American chart and the first in the UK), What Did I Do To You, Live Together, You Can’t Deny It and This Is The Right Time. She has received many awards including Brit Awards, Ivor Novello Awards and Billboard Music Awards. In 1999, Stansfield made her debut in the movie Swing, for which she recorded ten songs. In recent years, she has released albums Seven (2014) and Deeper (2018).

Lisa Stansfield has recently announced her autumn tour 2019, which will be dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the release of her debut solo album Affection.

Classic Album Sundays presents Lisa Stansfield on Dusty Springfield: Dusty in Memphis

21/3/2019

This year marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most significant ‘blue-eyed soul’ albums of all time, Dusty Springfield’s Dusty in Memphis. As one of the UK’s most distinctive soul singers, Dusty has been a huge inspiration to generations of artists including singer-songwriter Lisa Stansfield on Monday 13th May 2019.

Lisa and Classic Album Sundays founder/broadcaster Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy will take an in-depth look at Dusty’s classic album and its legacy, which includes Lisa’s award-winning and triple-platinum certified debut album Affection. The interview will be interspersed with music including a full vinyl playback of Dusty in Memphis and key moments from Affection, currently celebrating its own 30th anniversary.
Lisa Stansfield has done as much as anyone to establish Britain as a credible home of disco and house, soul and R&B, a viable alternative to the United States. Really, considering the last three decades of those genres, this nation’s saving soul graces have been Lisa and Sade, and anyone operating in those realms today owes them a debt of gratitude.
Four albums were international hits, selling more than 15 million copies and spawning over 20 hit singles, yet Stansfield was never interested in fame. The Adele of her day, she made only the music she wanted to make, didn’t try to keep up with trends and took her career at her own pace.

Join us at Kings Place as we take a look at one of Lisa’s biggest inspirations Dusty Springfield. Acclaimed by many as the best female pop singer to ever emerge out of Britain, Dusty Springfield has already become a legend through her four-decade career, genre versatility and numerous musical accomplishments. From her solo debut in the early 1960s she released twenty studio albums and countless memorable hits, which remain as appreciated today as they were when first becoming popular. She travelled extensively to promote her music, reaching distant locations and popularising soul music in countries where it was practically unknown. Recognised as having a unique style, she had a great impact on other musicians and on the industry as a whole, being celebrated not only for the music itself and her assiduousness as a recording artist, but also for her charming personality, stylish appearance and energy, traits which lead to her status as an icon of the British pop scene.

The timing could not be better as Dusty In Springfield  turns 50 this year and Lisa has just announced a run of events to celebrate the 30th anniversary release of her debut solo album Affection.

Time & Date: Monday 13th May 2019 7.30pm – 9:30pm
VenueKings Place, 90 York Way, London N1 9AG
