Surprise marriage proposal at Lisa’s show in York

Paul Cresswell contacted us last month to see whether he could make his marriage proposal a night neither he, nor his girlfriend Andrea could ever forget. Paul had initially set about proposing to his girlfriend on Valentines Day, however he sadly lost his Dad on that day and felt that the timing was not appropriate. So as Andrea is a massive Lisa fan, where else better to propose, but at a Lisa Stansfield gig. Here is Paul's little story.


"We arrived in York to see Lisa on the 19th of April me with secret in tow 😂.  For about two weeks I’d been arranging a way I could propose to my girlfriend Andrea with the help of Bev from the fan site and Rachel, Lisa’s manager together with Claire from the tour management. We hatched a plan together 😁😁😁

We (Andrea and myself) arrived at the Barbican in York, me with ring in pocket and plan in my head we had put together. We went to our seats and watched the warm up act which was amazing then the show began Lisa Stansfield live what we’d all been waiting for.

In my head it was a waiting game I’d got butterflies in my stomach I was waiting for the song 'The Real Thing' which was my cue to be brave 😂 all them people.... gulp!

'The Real Thing' finished then Lisa announced that a Paul in the crowd had got something to say! Then with a spotlight shining on me, Claire passed me over a microphone  🎤....

I got down on one knee, looked at Andrea who's face was pure shock and I said the immortal words. “Andrea, will you marry me?” I’m glad to say she said YES!!!  The crowd cheered....and the lights turned back to the stage and Lisa and her band started to perform "Change".

We had an amazing night and we will never forget it. Lisa live, is so amazing, so much soul and passion and we will definitely go to see her again!
