To date, 'All Around The World' still remains as Lisa's biggest selling hit record across the globe. Arguably a perfect song, which deservedly became her 1st number one record in the UK (2 weeks). It peaked at number one across Europe including Austria (for six weeks), Netherlands (four weeks), Norway (three weeks), Spain (two weeks), Belgium (one week). Additionally it peaked at number two in Germany, number three in Ireland, Italy and Switzerland, and number four in Sweden. The success of this record transcended across the pond over in the United States, where it reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as topping the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Dance Club Songs charts for several weeks. It was equally successful In Canada, Australia and New Zealand and the single was certified Platinum in the United States and Gold in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Austria and Sweden. It was difficult for anyone in the music industry to ignore Lisa's formidable success, especially when it came down to awards. In early 1990, Lisa accepted her first BRIT award for British Breakthrough and the Best Contemporary Song at the Ivor Novellos for 'All Around The World' and the list of honours and awards continued to stack up throughout the year and beyond that. Produced and co written with her husband Ian Devaney and their co writer at the time Andy Morris. This track spawned several exceptional remixes including Yvonne Turner, C. J. Mackintosh, David Dorrell, Eddie Gordon, Paul Witts and Steve Anderson. It wasn't until 15th January 1990 that 'All Around The World' was released in North America, including the US remixes by DJ Mark the 45 King and Richard Sweret. In celebration of 25 years since Lisa first released 'All Around The World' the reissue package (due out next month) allows the fans to revisit her first five studio albums with Arista in their remastered and expanded editions. On the 'Affection' reissue, it honors this amazing track by including several mixes of `All Around The World` with a remastering of the original on the new package, including a bonus track the (Long Version). On Disc 2 it includes two mixes; (Around The House Mix -by Yvonne Turner) & the (Runaway Love Mix - by Paul Witts & Eddie Gordon). Additionally, this track has been included as a promo video on the DVD disc and even includes a live version that was recorded in Birmingham on The 'Affection Tour'. In 2003 the New York based DJ Norty Cotto mixed up a treat for the fans with special edition release in collaboration of Lisa's Greatest hits with 'The Norty Cotto Mix'. The original music video was directed by Philip Richardson and Lisa was styled in this video by David Thomas. *Watch out for our exclusive post coming a little later today on the re-issue box-set! Today we want to celebrate this track with fans 'all around the world' by playing a special video edition (below) which has been reworked by Andy Rick. All Around The World (Norty Cotto Remix-Special Limited promo - Arista 2003) Andy Rick - Video Edition 2014 This week Lisa and her amazing band have been rehearsing at a John Henry's in North London. Here's a little sneak preview behind the scenes just before they all headed off up north on their luxurious tour-bus towards Birmingham. Tomorrow evening Lisa will perform her first night of her UK tour at the gorgeous Symphony Hall.
It would seem unjust to bypass an extremely significant milestone in history, especially when it comes to Lisa's musical career. Therefore there's no time like the present, because on this very day 25 years ago, (31st July 1989 to be precise) Lisa released her single "This Is the Right Time" in the UK. This song which was written by Lisa, together with her husband Ian Devaney and their former co- writer Andy Morris came several months after Lisa's massive chart success from her collaboration with Coldcut on "People Hold On". Jonathan More and Matt Black (Coldcut) returned the favour by producing the track for her. Remixes were later put together by Dave Dorrell, C.J. Mackintosh, Paul Witts and Eddie Gordon to name but a few. In August 1990, the double A-side single of "This Is the Right Time"/"You Can't Deny It" with U.S remixes was released in some selected European countries. Then in Japan, "This Is The Right Time" was released as a single on the 3rd October 1990. It went to number 13 in the UK charts, number 17 in Germany and number 20 in Austria. In the United States, it peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, but went to number 1 on the Hot Dance Club Songs and number 13 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. There were two official videos made to promote this single. The European version, was directed by Big TV! The U.S video for the North American market was directed by Jimmy Fletcher. Almost a year to the day after it's UK release, it was then released as Lisa's third single in North America on 30th July 1990. The U.S version included a previously unreleased track, "My Apple Heart". New remixes were then created by Shep Pettibone, Rodney Ascue and Yvonne Turner. Lisa and Ian, together with all your fans from around the world, we salute and thank you for the awe-inspiring music and impressive back-catalogue that you have cleverly created together over the years. We just ask one thing of you; Please keep it coming. Happy 25th Anniversary! Here's a selection of visuals of some of the commercially available versions, formats and mixes including a selection of the promo versions together with the two video releases below (thanks to Andrew Jensen for the visuals).

Todays "Throwback Thursday" we have a rare gem of a clip from Blue Zone, with Lisa, Ian Devaney on guitar and Andy Morris on Keyboards & Sax. With a live (ok playback) performance of their single at the time "Jackie" (unfortunately it does cut off slightly towards the end of the clip). This performance was recorded on 19th November 1988 for a French TV show at the time called "Lunettes noires pour nuits blanches" (translated as sunglasses for sleepless nights) at the The Palace theater, Montmartre in Paris (FR). Lisa reappeared solo, on the same show the following year performing her smash hit "This Is The right Time" and we all know what followed from there on after! "Snowboy" says of The Baltic Soul Weekender show: "I would say Lisa's headline concert at the incredible Baltic Soul Weekender last night was one of the top 5 I've played with her in the last 25 years. As a friend I was so proud of her. The affection and goodwill from that enormous Soul crowd was immense. I'd love to re-live that show" Video clip taken from backsatage by Daniel Dodd Ellis |
