Solidarity with disadvantaged children in Switzerland: the sixth Laureus Charity Night was held under this slogan yesterday. 17 Laureus Ambassadors accepted on behalf of the Foundation a donation cheque for the record amount of CHF 444’000. International sports stars such as US swimming legend Mark Spitz, Rumanian athletics icon Nadia Comaneci, Boris Becker, Marcel Desailly and Edwin Moses, together with distinguished personalities from the cultural and business worlds gathered yesterday in the hangar of the Dübendorf Air Force Centre, to raise money for the Laureus Foundation Switzerland.
Around 600 guests from sporting, business and political circles shared the Laureus credo: sport has the power to change the world. With their generous commitment a record donation amount of CHF 444’000 was collected, which will go in full towards the Foundation’s projects. The family of Laureus Ambassadors was also well represented: national football coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, Olympic winners Nicola Spirig and Edith Hunkeler-Wolf and professional cyclist Fabian Cancellara enjoyed the festive mood. The gala night’s special guest was British soul queen, Lisa Stansfield, who received standing ovations for her mega hits “All Around The World” and “Change”.
